So far I love the series. However, I don't like the short stories and calling it a trilogy. I know money has to be made but make it worth the money by making it more than 250 pages.
After reading Golden Blood, I bought this book immediately. And I fell in love with it even more than the first (if that was physically possible?). Melissa Pearl is an incredibly story teller who has created such a deep, intense story about Gemma and Harrison and their worrying predicament. It's about love, betrayal and family issues, with such a magical fantasy element that it'll blow you away. I absolutely loved this sequel and as soon as I'd finished it, I immediately bought the third!
This is definitely a HS romance (i'm an adult), but I thought the story was very sweet - lots of kissing and heavy petting but no intercourse - the male protagonist is very mature and understanding for an 18yo. I enjoyed the entire series.
While the surreal is a foundational part of this story, the focus is on human experience- relationships with others. The characters are realistic and the plot is compelling.
Melissa Pearl has done it again with Black Blood, book #2 in the Time Spirit Trilogy. I HIGHLY recommend if you have yet to read Golden Blood, book #1 in the Time Spirit Trilogy that you do. Melissa Pearl did not disappoint readers with her writing. In Black Blood you learn about Gabe, the mysterious man from the beach. Gemma and Harrison must decide to trust Gabe or not once they hear his story. When Gemma and her family travel to he past she thinks it's a routine jump through time. How far will Gemma's parents go to protect their interest? What are her parents willing to do in the name of love to protect her? It's too late by the time Gemma finds out not only are they changing the future, but it will have a direct effect on Gemma and Harrison. Now Gemma must trust Gabe even if she doesn't believe his story. Black Blood will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they read and begging for more when it's over.
When you find a great indie author, it's like discovering buried treasure or a new world. And a new world is exactly what Melissa Pearl delivers in her Time Spirit Trilogy series. Amazingly, the second book in this contemporary YA series is even better than the first; and the first was awesome. Again, Gemma is a wonderfully strong but vulnerable heroine. She has the rare ability to travel through time but is being manipulated by a very nasty set of parents who do their best to separate her from Harrison, her other half. It takes every ounce of courage and strength for Gemma to keep him in her life. Of course, Harrison is definitely worth the effort. He's clearly a ten on the yum-boyfriend-scale.
Black Blood is so expertly plotted that I couldn't wait to see what happened next and couldn't put the book down. Melissa Pearl is not only a great writer, she's a great storyteller and this is a story that must not be missed. I can't wait to read the third book, Pure Blood.
Wowza. I finished this book in about 5 hours. In that time, I ignored phone calls, my bladder and the rest of the world. I loved it. 5 stars from this little black duck. If you havent read this series, go and get the first book Golden Blood!
This installment had Gemma dealing with a whole lot of issues, the main one being re-establishing her soul mate Harrison's existence after her parents did the dirty during a time trip. I just knew they were baddies! I loved going on this adventure with Gemma and her determination endeared her to me even more.
We met a wonderful, wonderful character in Gabe and my heart sang for him in each scene. His honesty and raw emotion was so beautiful to be part of. I am hoping for many things for him in the next book.
Gemma and Harrison have got a tough road ahead but I am confident that Gemma's new found indepence and rebellion will serve her well. I am super excited to be going straight on to the final book Pure Blood and can not wait to see what the installment holds - thank goodness it's already published!!!
