If you live or grew up in Loudoun County Virginia and are interested in its early history then you should like this book. I have lived in Loudoun County for 20 years and was interested in the history of this county. Also my ancestors,the Nolan's,originally came from this area and I was interested in reading about them. I wasn't disappointed. This book gave a good,broad overview of all its early settlers and prominent families. The Noland's were very prominent and I may have found the reason my side of the Nolan's moved away and into what would be Kentucky. This book has lots of information about how towns got their names and how they were established;people who have long been forgotten but were very involved in the early history of the county and helped make it what it is today. This book was written in the late 1930's. It would have been good to have had more information about the early 1900's. This book did mostly focus on the 18th and 19th century history. Still a good book for anyone looking to know more about early Loudoun County Virginia history.Product details

My purpose in reading this was to try to find a trace of an individual in my family tree. I knew it was a very long shot and it turned out not to be useful for that purpose. But I would recommend it as a general history for those with known Loudoun County connections.
I am studying my family history and this book has some of my ancestors in it with stories I was not aware of about their lives!
