So many times during this book, I was silently screaming for Macy to stand up for herself, to put people in their place, and to act like the high school senior she was....it took her a LONG time to get there.Nevertheless, this is a sweet story with amazing character development. Recommended!

The Truth About Forever Sarah Dessen Books Reviews
I first read this book in High School and loved it!!! I've read it at least 5 more times since then. I just bought this for my best friend for Christmas just because of how much I love it. I love most of Sarah Dessen books, I love how real these dark situations can be for girls of this age group (High School) as when I read this one I had recently lost my mom so I felt like I connected to this character.
I was hooked from the beginning , which is always a good sign in a book. Macy, the mc, has gone through quite a bit in her young life. As she steps out of her comfort zone and begins to grow , instead of staying stagnant as she had been , you see such a development of her character. It's a beautiful transition as she learns to deal with life and how to handle her emotions. Great book, recommend it.
All in all, I liked the book. It was a little slow moving, but you can't help but fall in love with Wes, along with the main character and I found her responses to situation frequently relatable.
Pros
Well-written
Complex characters
Wes is awesome
Cons
Slow-moving
Reads a little more like a third person book, even though it's written in first person
In my personal opinion, a little too much details about unnecessary actions or places
This wasn't an all-time favorite for me, but it really was an interesting and enjoyable story. And I really liked the way it ended.
I am absolutely in love with reading! Ever since I was a kid I would always have a book by my side no matter where I was. As you can imagine, I was on end for days waiting for my package to come, which this time, consisted of 5 books. One of them, "The Truth About Forever", by Sarah Dessen, is probably one of my favorite books. This past summer my mom would take me to the library and it was there that I fell in love with Mrs. Dessen. There was something about her style that made me anticipate the ending of every book. "The Truth About Forever" is probably my favorite book by her. Macy kind of reminds me of myself. I'm a pre-planner so I always plan ahead. When something doesn't go exactly how I wanted too, I tend to get mad. But I've learned along the way that sometimes it's good to go with the flow. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is like me and wants to be more like Macy.
This is the rare book that brings together the two sides of me mother and daughter. The mom in me wanted to wrap my arms around the main character and shelter her from all the pain, but the teenager in me understood the bumpy process she needed to go through to figure out who she needed to be. In my humble opinion, Judy Blume is the authority on teenagers and coming of age stories. But, dare I say... Sarah Dessen is this generation's Judy Blume. And I can say that with some authority, since I have a preteen daughter who I know would love this book and I devoured all of Blume's books during my own teenage years.
Macy faces all the typical facets of teenagerdom, but all of that seems inconsequential when she witnesses her dad die. To cope, Macy surrounds herself with safety and routine. Unfortunately, safety is keeping her from living, something she's not aware of until Delia and her band of helpers come to cater one of Macy's Mom's parties. Then her "safe" boyfriend, gone for the summer to Brain Camp, sends her an email asking for a cooling off period. How do you cool off something that never had any heat?!
Macy joins the catering crew and slowly comes back to life, bringing a damaged Wes, who lost his mother to cancer, on the journey with her. More than anything, I wanted Macy to embrace life and start enjoying youth, but I also wanted Wes to heal and be part of Macy's new life.
One of the characters gives this advice in the book "For any one of us our forever could end in an hour, or ... years from now. You can never know for sure, so you'd better make every second count." Great advice for young and old, and I'd classify this book as making your reading time count!
Thanks to Sarah Dessen's excellent story and character development, I can't think of a reader who wouldn't love this book. Okay, maybe male readers who only want action or people who insist a story must have a paranormal angle. And, wait, if you've never been a teenager, you might not understand. All others, get your box of Kleenex, find a comfortable spot to sit, and dive in. You'll be glad you did.
This maybe be my favorite book. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. Macy lost so much that day in December. She lost her running partner, best friend, her dad. But that day she also lost herself, stopped running and withdrawing from her friends. She then became a Macy that her fit in better with her mother. A focus Macy, dating a smart guy, getting good grades, not going out and acting out like her sister in the day.
But then she meet the gang at WISH and everything changed.
That's all I'm going to say because you should just read the book. It well have you crying and laughing but you won't be able to put it down 😃
This book was an absolutely amazing book. I got really into and couldn't put it down. I normally hate reading but there was just something about this book that made me want to keep reading. There are many diverse characters in this book that come together and it all works and flows so well. Macy, Jason, Wes and Delia are the main characters. Pretty much, her father dies so she has to find a way to cope with that. Her boyfriend is away at Brain Camp and he eventually wants to "take a break" from their relationship. She starts working for a catering company and meet this guy, Wes. They don't hit it off right away but she slowly but surely starts to fall for him. They are two great characters that really work well together in the book. It is a great read and you won't be able to out it down because you'll want to keep finding out what happens next.
So many times during this book, I was silently screaming for Macy to stand up for herself, to put people in their place, and to act like the high school senior she was....it took her a LONG time to get there.
Nevertheless, this is a sweet story with amazing character development. Recommended!
