Wonderful book that addresses gender intolerance for both boys and girls. In a terrific rhyme, Niki Bhatia writes of two brothers who are discussing what is acceptable behavior for a boy. The younger brothers likes the color pink and is told that he should prefer blue better. He explains that pink is alright, because even daddy wears pink shirts. And so it goes, from rough housing, to sports, to the types of toys the younger boy is supposed to enjoy. He explains that mom says it's okay if he prefers different things than his brother. He introduces a friend who happens to be female and enjoys more masculine pursuits. "Mommy says pink is just a color...like red or blue. What really matters is what's deep inside of you." A truly thoughtful book that teaches children that labels are not necessary, and that any which way you choose is fine. I loved this book.Tags : Pink is Just A Color and So is Blue [Niki Bhatia] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. You’re a boy who likes pink? Great! You like to play with dolls? A good story and beautiful message about accepting everyone(kids) as they are and not putting them into stereotypes and letting them explore on their own. Our 6 year old read it and liked it too.
Great book! My 5y/o daughter relates well to the tom-boyish character in the book, Lily, and asks me to read the story to her all the time. The author conveys a great message of tolerance and acceptance of individuality as well as gender equality through this cute, light-hearted story. This book is a great teaching tool that can be used in a preschool or elementary setting for teaching acceptance of different types of people. My little girl is taking the book to school for show-and-tell...I think it will be a terrific story/ lesson for her class to hear!
As a parent, I thoroughly loved the approach about letting children explore what they like, without being told what they should like. I read this to my younger children, and my older child read it on his own. They all enjoyed it and understood that it's ok for boys to play with dolls, or girls pretending to be cops and pirates. This is a fantastic book to read, and to have children ask questions and understand there is nothing "weird" about boys liking pink and dressing up, or girls liking blue and playing sports. Well done! I am telling my kids' teachers about it to read to their classes.
This is a great book to overcome gender stereotypes and teach children the world's greatest lesson be who you are.
Perfect for pre-readers and Kindergarten children to understand gender equality in everyday life.
Pink is Just A Color and So is Blue is a great book with cute illustrations and nice message to end stereotyping of boy and girl in terms of their choices and preferences. My daughter loved it...I would recommend it to kids aged- Early Readers to Independent Readers. (5-10yrs)
I read this with my kids & step children, ages ranging from 17-6 years old.It was surprising to me how much we enjoyed it & how it reached each child on a different level.Sad to say, bullying is a serious problem & I was surprised to see how all 7 children have been witness to it & even victims.I plan on getting more copies for nephews & nieces. It was a great book
